The heavily armoured tank is a slow moving but durable monster but its special ability is a short distance warp ability that feels like a sprint to get you into combat. Yhe fighter is analogous to a normal fighter jet and packs missiles, fired off by tracking the enemy with your eyes until the missiles are locked on. The abilities are different depending on the which of the three classes you go for. The right trigger will trigger your ship's cannons, while the left trigger activates a special ability. Weapons are aimed by squinting at a target or lining them up with the crosshair on your screen before letting rip. The space-capitalism of EVE Online is nowhere to be seen, this is just an arcade blaster making the most of its older sibling's world.Ĭombat is fast-paced and simple to control. That's not an unfair description of how it feels to pirouette Valykrie's fighter pilots through the rubble strewn starfields. The game's lead designer Andrew Williams reveals this is intentional during his briefing to open the hands-on: "We want you to feel like Tom Cruise from Top Gun in space," he says, with a chuckle. It's a smart launch title, as Valkyrie immediately feels like the Rift's killer app - this is the best space dogfighting game ever made and I feel like the best pilot ever.

"Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we're excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere." "It perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming, shooting you into a sci-fi adventure as you pilot a spaceship in search of combat." said Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus. "EVE: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development." All pre-orders of the Rift will include a copy of the game. EVE Valkyrie is going to be a launch title with the Oculus Rift when it launches early next year. We have big plans for EVE: Valkyrie and I can’t wait to share more details later this year.Let's start with the exciting part. With all that EVE history and lore to draw from, it's tempting to believe that a single-player campaign is part of the plan for the game.ĬCP's boss Hilmar Petursson had this to say: “From the moment this year’s Fanfest attendees first got their hands on EVE-VR, the question has been, ‘When can I have this?' What started as a passion project by a small, incredibly talented group of CCP developers became one of the most highly anticipated games of the year - before we even announced it.
EVE VALKYRIE CAMPAIGN FULL
Last time I played it, EVE Valkyrie was a multiplayer-only dogfighter, but when I asked CCP whether there would be a single-player story component in the full game the answer was an ambiguous "we're not ready to talk about that yet". It's a high-speed, high-adrenaline flight combat game. EVE Valkyrie is set in the same universe, but it won't have the complex gameplay of either.
EVE VALKYRIE CAMPAIGN PS3
Development is being handled at CCP's Newcastle studio in the UK, and the people at CCP's head office in Reykjavik who prototyped the game in their spare time are all moving there to lead the project.ĭeveloper CCP is arguably already the video game world's official King of Space, as the creator of long-running, fascinatingly complex and fanatically beloved spaceship MMO EVE Online, which ties into free-to-play PS3 shooter Dust 514. The game itself was hugely impressive even in tech demo format at Fanfest, putting you into the cockpit of a nimble fighter craft with full freedom of movement and vision thanks to Oculus Rift, but now that it's been greenlit for full production it will have the resources behind it to look truly stunning. The teaser trailer is enough to give anyone with fond memories of games like Wing Commander chills. T was originally a tech demo made by five guys in their spare time, but now EVE-VR - the Oculus Rift space dogfighting game that made its debut at EVE Fanfest this year - is going to be a full game called EVE Valkyrie, coming in 2014.
